This project is very exciting for me. The Dotlab is a concept that I nurtured before it’s birth. This is no ordinary lab, its sole purpose is to elaborate dental prothesis especially made for patients in Asisa Dental, essentially. Most of these labs are located on the outskirts of the cities, instead of being in the center, like this one. They also usually work for a large variety of health institutions and not only dedicate themselves to prothesis. So all in all, this was after all something new.
The idea was to elaborate a cool workspace for the employees and a unique concept so that this lab was easily identified. The process took a while. In the end we decided to go for a hipster based look&feel. I searched for inspiration in New York style: the brick walls, the cafes, the industrial look.
The name The Dotlab I did not come up with, but I loved the explanation: it is the last part of the dental process, the full stop: the dot.
In the end I decided to go for a B&W colour palette and a sans serif font, to make it simple. However, it was too dull and it was important to create a graphic image that would make the logo recognizable without the name. So I went with a gear to replace the “o” of the Dot. This represents the industrial handwork and inspiration I mentioned before.
